5 things not to do in retail!
- Don't try to "Spin" your mistakes. Sure, telling a customer that the delivery was delayed due to "truck broke down" ~ "supplier sent it to wrong address" , and so on may make the situation appear not to be your fault but you're actually lying and if you're found out, you've lost that customer for life....
- Don't leave goods unpriced even if its free, Tell your customers how much it is [if its free, Tell them!], put a sticker, a poster, whatever, but never leave goods OR services unpriced, it wastes both your and your customer's time.
- Don't let your store become an untidy, unswept mess. If you don't care about your own business why should anyone else.
- Don't try to be everything to everyone, you should know what business you're in and what you're not. Do what you do well and leave others to do what they do well. Unless of course you decide to learn up, stock up and out deliver your competitor.
- Don't tell porkies (fibs, white lies, whatever). Once you start, your staff will feel quite comfortable adopting the same approach anytime they need to cover up a mistake to you or your customers.
